Welcome to DyslexiaPlus – Home of evidence-based dyslexia screening
Here are some answers to your questions about the Dyslexia Plus screener.
DyslexiaPlus - Q & A
What makes this different from other Dyslexia screening tools?
Dyslexia+ Profiler is very different from many other tools that focus on dyslexia alone. As people with Dyslexia can be neurodivergent and so may also have some challenges (to a greater or lesser extent) with concentrating, coordination, organisation and social interaction.
BUT Every person is different. Dyslexia+ Profiler finds out about your profile, that is distinct to you and provides personalised guidance.
You know your challenges. Dyslexia+ Profiler aims to help you to start to find ways to maximise your skills and minimise these.
Who is Dyslexia+ Profiler for?
The Dyslexia+ Screener is for you if you think you may have Dyslexia or someone has said you may, and allows you to take your first step to see if this is likely. Once you have completed the screener Dyslexia+ Profiler is for if you want your skills assessed, in order to better understand your strengths and weaknesses, and gain some practical support and have some resources. The tools have been designed if you are 16 years and over, and offer you guidance if you are in employment, seeking employment or in further or higher education.
What can you use the report for?
Although primarily aimed at practical and personalised support, you can also share the report with others, such as your line manager if you are in employment, or a tutor if you are an apprentice, in college, or at university.
So why should I use this?
A diagnosis in some settings may be important so for a few people you may have to follow this up with an assessment. However, we recognise that every person is different and so your personalised report with resources and strategies are designed for you and your profile rather than a label. That is what Dyslexia+ Profiler is all about and may be more than enough to help you!
Will it say if I am dyslexic?
A formal diagnosis of Dyslexia is usually only provided by an appropriately qualified assessment specialist such as an educational psychologist. However, the report will confirm your areas of strengths and weaknesses, and will tell you if your profile is consistent with someone with dyslexia.
What is included?
It provides you with a picture of your strengths and areas of challenge, and practical guidance and links to resources.
How long will it take?
In Dyslexia+ Profiler you need to complete all the modules in the main folder. This should take you about an hour or so depending on how fast you answer. But don’t worry, you do not have to do it all in one go. You can do it in several sessions to complete them all. But please note that you can only do each test once. If you have to stop half-way through a test, you also have the option to continue where you left off.
Is there a time limit for access?
The assessments can only be completed once, but you don’t have to complete them all in one session. You can also access your report for up to two years after you have taken the modules.
Will I have to read a lot?
The Dyslexia+ Profiler Report is like a “Personalised Support Manual.” for you. It has lots of information and we have made it as dyslexia-friendly as possible, and information is available in different formats. You may want to dip into the report and set some goals for yourself, and then review it when you need to.
To make life easier, we also have shortened url’s (links to websites) to make it easier for you. We have our own www.dotr.im short links (Do Trim!) to make it easier for you so you don’t have to retype the whole link.
What computer do I need, or can I use my tablet?
The system works through your browser and should work on Windows, Apple and Android devices. To be dyslexia-friendly, the tests have sound files. You need reasonably fast internet speed to avoid frustration waiting for downloads. We do not advise you using it on a mobile phone.
